Supremely special, and he knows it.

Special from the start, Boy Wonder is the only puppy from Layla's breeding to Jet. His first days were filled with much uncertainty as he battled a raging infection and colic but, thanks to the care of UC Davis emergency vet staff (and several long, sleepless nights), the boy survived and became . . . The Boy Wonder! What Boy's litter lacked in quantity, he more than makes up for in quality, and he is everything I could possibly want in my bestest canine buddy.

Proving that singleton pups needn't be socially maladjusted, the Boy is friendly and outgoing, bombproof in any situation, and utterly adaptable. Boy Wonder is fearless without being reckless, and bold without being brash. Full of self-assurance, character, good humor, and an emotionally intuitive nature, the Boy exudes a soulful wisdom and has fast become one of my heart dogs. An opportunist for fun who greets each day with great gusto, the Boy's curiosity and enthusiasm turns even the most mundane farm chores into an adventure - life's just more fun with the Boy at my side. And, did I mention he's a genius?

At work, the Boy demonstrates extraordinary focus and work ethic at a very young age, and is the most naturally talented gundog I've ever had the privilege to work. His courage and drive are complemented by superb biddability and a genuine eagerness to please and do right. Though his explosive speed and enthusiasm demonstrate an unparalled love of the retrieving game, Boy Wonder possesses a cool and collected working attitude - the recipe for supreme trainability. Always thinking and processing, the Boy is very quick to learn new concepts and is a most fun dog to train as a result. The Boy has been a bold water dog since his first swim at 5 weeks old, and as revealed by his 'splash zone' water entry. Boy Wonder earned his WC at 6 months, and went on to earn his Junior Hunter in two weeks at 11 months old. The Boy is now rapidly progressing through his marking, handling, and lining training to run derbies and senior. Though Boy has yet to make his waterfowling debut, he has followed in his Mum's upland hunting pawsteps as a fast and fearless hunter, pointing live game and retrieving even the most ornery rooster with a soft-mouth.

The Boy is a very balanced and athletic puppy appearing much more mature than his age would suggest. Time will tell how his proportions hold but, for now, he is a moderate dog all around - moderate size, bone, angulation, and length of loin, all in perfect harmony. Sporting a level topline, long and strong neck, pronounced prow, proper tail-set, and dense coat with moderate feathering, the Boy has an overall lovely outline with no noticeable faults. Without any extremes or any over-refinement, the Boy's head is masculine and typey, with proper proportions, fill, and transition from muzzle to backskull, both in profile and straight-on. A remarkably dark eye, wise expression, correct ear size and set, and super tight feet complete the package. The Boy is a flawless mover, but his superb reach and drive is especially notable on the side.

I am very grateful to Jim and Carole Irvine of Vbos Flat-coats in Scotland for allowing me to use their extraordinary stud dog, Jet, for the Boy Wonder's breeding. He is truly once-in-a-lifetime, and I love him to bits.
